Halloween Nights & Haunted Attractions at Chicagoland Pumpkin Farms (2026)
Four Chicagoland pumpkin farms run Halloween attractions in 2026, and they sit at very different points on the scare scale - from Goebbert's explicitly family-friendly 10-room haunted barn to Sonny Acres' after-dark Haunted Barn and Haunted Hayride, Siegel's Zombie Paintball, and Jack's Pumpkin Pop-Up's light tunnels and cocktail bars downtown. This guide sorts them by how frightening they actually are, so you do not accidentally take a six-year-old into the wrong barn.
The Halloween attractions, sorted by scare level
Farm Halloween attractions are not the same product as a dedicated haunted house. Three of the four below are attached to a working daytime pumpkin farm, which means you can do the pumpkins, the animals and the donuts in daylight and stay on for the scares - or skip the scares entirely and still have a full day.
| Attraction | Farm & town | Scare level | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Haunted 10-Room Barn | Goebbert's Farm, South Barrington | Family friendly - billed as not-scary | Kids roughly 3-12 and first-timers |
| Giant Skull Light Tunnel & neon pumpkin arch | Jack's Pumpkin Pop-Up, Goose Island | Atmospheric, not frightening | Adults, couples, teens, city date nights |
| Zombie Paintball & Sniper Gallery | Siegel's Cottonwood Farm, Lockport | Action rather than horror | Older kids, teens and adults |
| Haunted Barn & Haunted Hayride | Sonny Acres Farm, West Chicago | The real thing - genuine scares | Teens and adults |
When the haunted season actually starts
Sonny Acres opens its daytime Spooktacular festival on September 18, 2026, but the weekend evening Haunted Barn and Haunted Wagon Rides do not begin until September 25. That week-long gap catches people out every year - the farm is open, the haunted attractions are not.
Jack's Pumpkin Pop-Up opens September 24 and runs through November 1. Goebbert's runs September 12 through October 31, and Siegel's runs September 19 through October 31, so both close out on Halloween itself.
Top Ranked Picks & Why We Recommend Them
If you want Halloween without the fright
Plenty of people want the jack-o'-lanterns, the lights and the atmosphere and none of the adrenaline. Two options do this well.
Jack's Pumpkin Pop-Up on Goose Island is decorative rather than scary - a Giant Skull Light Tunnel, an illuminated neon pumpkin arch, 10,000+ pumpkin display walls and the Chicago skyline behind them. It runs 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM on weekdays and 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM on weekends, with timed-entry tickets from $22 to $38, plus cocktail bars and axe throwing for adults.
Sonny Acres' Jack-O'-Lantern Light Tunnel and 1800s red barn mural are on the free-entry grounds, so you can walk the atmosphere there without buying into the haunted attractions at all.
Planning a Halloween night out on a farm
- Confirm the evening schedule before driving - haunted attractions at Sonny Acres run weekend evenings only, and every other suburban farm closes at 6:00 PM.
- Sonny Acres' free grounds entry makes it the easiest farm for a mixed group where only some people want to be scared.
- Goebbert's and Siegel's both close for the season on October 31, so Halloween night itself is the last chance at either.
- Take the CTA Blue Line to Division or a rideshare for Jack's - Goose Island parking is limited paid street and lot parking and gets congested.
- No Chicagoland pumpkin farm in this guide allows pets, so leave the dog at home and plan for service animals only.
Essential Checklist & Pro-Tips

- Sonny Acres stays open to 10:00 PM on haunted nights; all other suburban farms close at 6:00 PM.
- Jack's Pumpkin Pop-Up requires timed-entry tickets - book before you travel.
- Bring a layer. Farm evenings in October drop sharply once the sun is down.
