Closest Pumpkin Patches to Chicago: Drive Times From the Loop (2026)

Every major pumpkin farm serving Chicago sits within a 45-minute drive of the Loop, and one of them is only 10 minutes out. The differences that matter are not really distance - they are which expressway you take, when you leave, and whether you need a car at all. This guide ranks all six farms by drive time from downtown Chicago, with the route for each.

Every farm, ranked by drive time from the Loop

These times assume clear roads. October weekend mornings on I-55 and I-90 are not clear roads, so add a meaningful buffer if you are travelling between about 9:30 AM and noon on a Saturday.

The only one you can reach without a car

Jack's Pumpkin Pop-Up on Goose Island is the single option here that does not require driving out of the city. Take the CTA Blue Line to Division, or a rideshare - the farm itself recommends both, because on-site parking is limited paid street and lot parking that congests badly on weekend evenings.

It is worth being clear about what it is, though. Jack's is an urban pop-up rather than a working farm: a 2-acre illuminated corn maze, 10,000+ pumpkin display walls, cocktail bars, fire pits, axe throwing and photo installations, built for young adults, couples and city dwellers who want an evening out. If you want a hayride, a petting zoo and a field to pick a pumpkin out of, you need one of the suburban farms.

Chicago (Goose Island)

Ten minutes and 3 miles from the Loop, and reachable on the Blue Line. Open 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM on weekdays and 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM on weekends, which makes it the only option on this list you can do after work. Timed-entry tickets run $22 to $38. Best for evening plans, not for family farm days.

Sonny Acres Farm

Sonny Acres Farm

West Chicago

Forty minutes due west on I-290 and IL-64, and the best low-commitment trip on the list because entry to the grounds is free. If the drive out turns out to be worse than expected, you have not pre-paid for a day you no longer have time for - you buy $15 to $30 wristbands only for what you use. Free paved parking, and it stays open to 10:00 PM on haunted weekend nights.

Pick your farm by which expressway you already live near

  • I-55 south: Bengtson's in Homer Glen (38 mins) and Siegel's in Lockport (40 mins) are both straight down the Stevenson. Two very different farms - rides versus a 15-acre corn maze - on effectively the same drive.
  • I-290 / IL-64 west: Sonny Acres in West Chicago, 40 minutes, free grounds entry.
  • I-88 west: Abbey Farms in Aurora, 45 minutes, and the cheapest full-day pass at $16 to $22.
  • I-90 northwest: Goebbert's in South Barrington, 42 minutes, and the only farm with Animal Land and a giraffe feeding deck.
  • No expressway at all: Jack's Pumpkin Pop-Up, 10 minutes, Blue Line to Division.

Timing the drive

The farms that open earliest give you the best shot at a clear run. Bengtson's opens 9:30 AM on weekends, and Goebbert's opens 9:00 AM every day - the earliest opening of any farm here. Leaving the city by around 8:30 AM on a Saturday gets you there near opening and ahead of the worst of the traffic and the queues.

Weekday visits solve the problem entirely, and they are cheaper. Bengtson's own advice is to come Tuesday or Wednesday morning before 1:00 PM for zero lines on the rides and donuts straight out of the fryer, and a weekday ticket there is $19.99 against $29.99 at peak weekends.

Two dates to avoid if you dislike crowds: Columbus Day on October 12, 2026, when every suburban farm runs weekend-level entertainment, and the weekend of October 16 to 18, which is the peak harvest weekend across Chicagoland.

Essential Checklist & Pro-Tips

  • Add a buffer to any 9:30 AM to noon Saturday drive on I-55 or I-90 in October.
  • Goebbert's opens 9:00 AM daily - the earliest opening of any farm here.
  • Abbey Farms is closed Mondays and Tuesdays; do not drive to Aurora on a Monday.
  • Free parking at all five suburban farms; Goose Island is paid and limited.
  • Bengtson's runs a tractor shuttle from its parking lots to the entrance.
  • Jack's requires timed-entry tickets - book before you set off.
